Cir, 5/2010 1st May 2010 "The priesthood is the love of the heart of Jesus." St. John Mary Vianney
Dear Fathers Brothers & Sisters, Once again I send warm greetings for the Season of Easter! I regret to inform you of the sudden demise of Fr. Alfred Carvalho on 7th April. He passed away of a massive heart attack. His funeral was conducted on 8th morning at 9.30. It was well attended by large number of Priests, Religious and faithful. Fr. Alfie was first appointed to the missions of Raipur and he returned to Nagpur in the year 1977. He was a good teacher, pastor and friend of youth. His sudden demise has left a great vacuum in the archdiocese. Let us continue to pray for him (RIP). May 1st is celebrated all over the world as Labour Day. The CBCI Commission for Labour has issued a message for the occasion. Secured Worker, Strong Nation (lqjf{kr etnwj etcqr jk"Vª ) is the theme. While there will be lots of celebrations by way of demonstrations in the streets and gatherings to impress upon the need to unite and work for the welfare and security of the workers, let us also join in small ways to give our workers their due. The month of May is especially dedicated to Mother May. Meditative recitation of Rosary and other devotional practices should help us and our families to come closer to Mary and through her to Jesus her Son. I do hope our faithful are encouraged for these religious practices. This year being the Year of the Priest I will be accompanying 10 Priests of our Archdiocese for a Course on Current Issues challenging Priestly life from 10th-15th May 2010 at Bangkok Thailand (Assumption University). Please pray for us The Missionary Meeting from 21st-22nd April and the Ordination Services on 22nd were beautifully organized. Thanks to one and all who so beautifully helped in organizing these events. The report will be published in the coming issue of Messenger. The Cross on the Hill at Padrithana is yet another Pilgrimage Center of our Archdiocese. This year the feast is celebrated on Sunday 2nd May. I encourage you to attend the programs with devotion and in large numbers and pray for various needs. There will be a Vocation Camp for Boys from the evening of 14th to the afternoon of 16th May (Friday to Sunday) at the Pastoral Center Archbishop’s House. I encourage you to send high school going boys for this camp. For further information contact Fr. Ignatius Anthony. Holidays are part of our life as one need to take rest after hard work. I do encourage you to take the deserving holidays. However not all are on holidays. Those who go for holidays must make alternative arrangements for the pastoral care in the respective parishes and institutions. During our recent Mission Congress on Youth, one strong phrase that often repeated was: there is NO holiday for missionaries. As customary in our Archdiocese one should get prior permission from the Vicar General/Archbishop with a copy of the letter to the Archbishop. Transfers and Appointments 2010, listed below will be effective by 15th of June. The Vicar General or another authorized priest will effect the handing over process with proper documents. Fr.
