Priesthood is not … something. It is someone: Christ

Cardinal Suhard

Dear Fathers, Brothers & Sisters,

Happy New Year to one and all! As we begin a new year, let us first thank God for the year gone by. Definitely we can say that we have received many blessings from the Lord, and we count on his further blessings. People who have come in our way too are blessings in our lives. Let us thank God for them.

As we start a new year celebrating the feast of Mary, The Mother of God, we entrust all our future plans and programs under her care. Surely she will protect us, intercede for us.

I hear of beautiful and meaningful celebrations of Christmas all over the Archdiocese. Let us thank God for giving us an occasion to make known the meaning of the birth of Christ.  Everywhere, in villages missions , towns and cities, people thronged to visit the churches and admire the beautiful crib. We must make good arrangements that there are always some people to explain the true meaning of Christmas depicted in Cribs.

Our Christmas Family get together on 30th December was a great success. Though we could not inform everybody in advance since it was a last minute decision to have the family gathering this year, many were generous enough to join the celebration which was shorter and enjoyable than previous years  as  many said. Sorry for not sending the invitation early.

1st January is celebrated by the universal church as a World Day of Peace. The theme of the Pope’s message is “If you want to cultivate peace, Protect Creation”. Let this be a point for our refection not only on this day but all throughout the New Year. Let us earnestly work for a culture of peace in the world.

As it has been announced early, the 10th General Body Meeting of the Catholic Council of India is taking place in Nagpur from 9-12th of January. While the main venue is Pallotti Animation Center Anant Nagar, the Delegates will be staying in various Institutions of ours. I already thank those who are making the arrangements for their comfortable stay. Nearly 350 Delegates from all over India are to take part in this biennial Meeting. This is the first time the Archdiocese is hosting this important meeting. The theme of this 4 day meeting is Youth, current issues and problems in the country.

There will be a Reception hosted for the delegates of CCI Meeting by the Archdiocese of Nagpur. It will be on Sunday 10th January at 5.30 Pm in SFS Cathedral Grounds. There will be a Concelebrated Mass, followed by a Cultural  Program and Dinner for the Delegates. I invite all the Priests to Concelebrate the Mass and encourage the Religious and faithful too to attend these Functions to honor the delegates coming from all over India.

In the meantime please pray specially for the success of CCI Meeting. Any event of the Church needs our support and encouragement in various ways. It is a land mark gathering in the history of Nagpur Church.

Mission Sunday Collections: I am told that many people have not given the Mission Sunday Collections yet. Please be  generous enough to give the  collections made , to the office without  further delay.

We will have the celebration of the Year of Priests on 24th & 25th of January. To coincide with the Feast of St. Francis de Sales the Patron of our Archdiocese. The Committee set apart for the Year of the Priests is making elaborate plans for the celebrations.

THE SFS School is celebrating 140 years of its existence. Various programs are chalked out to mark this event. We fondly remember the founding Fathers of this great Educational Institution and pray for them. We wish the Principal, Staff and students abundant blessings on this occasion.

The Church Unity Octave is from 18-25th January.  In the context of re-union taking place in some parts of the world, we are all the more encouraged to have a positive attitude towards this week long prayer. Please try to participate in the gathering at different churches and pray for the Unity of the Churches.
