Cir.9/10 1st September 2010
Dear Fathers, Brothers & Sisters,
Greetings from Nagpur! The month of September had many important events to celebrate. On 5th we celebrate on the birthday of Dr. S Radhakrishnan a great philosopher and teacher the Teachers day. It is a day on which we specially honor our teachers for their selfless service in the noble service of teaching. Teaching is not a job but it is a noble service after the model of our great teacher and Guru Jesus. I take this opportunity to thank all the teachers for their selfless services, especially those who serve in our institutions.
5th September is also the death anniversary of Blessed mother Teresa. Recently locally, in the nation and all over the world her birth centenary was celebrated with great enthusiasm. Her life and noble cause of serving the poorest of the poor still stands as beacon of hope for many poor and under privileged lot. While paying our respects to this noble Soul at the Centenary Celebration at Vigyan Bhavan New Delhi, the President of India compared her as a citizen of the whole world. I was privileged to be present for various celebrations at Delhi.
The birth Centenary of another Saint, namely Sr. Alphonsa was also celebrated in national level in August where once again the President of India was the Chief Guest. We need to thank the Lord for the positive understanding and religious values our Country tries to uphold against many odds.
We celebrate the nativity of Mother Mary on 8th of September. It is also celebrated in many parishes and places as the Feast of Mother Mary of Velanakanni. There is a lot of readiness among our people to celebrate this feast with great pomp and enthusiasm. Let us encourage our people in this celebration so that they may direct their Bhakti to Jesus her son.
The Church in India celebrates the Day of the Girl Child on the Birthday of Mary, Mother of Jesus. According to the Economic Survey 2001, the most alarming crisis in India is the number of mission women from the country. The millions of females found to be missing, were either never born or died of chronic malnutrition or due to lack of medical attention. Other indicators of neglect of girl child include lack of attention as compared to boys, lack of education, less share of food and various other types of gender discrimination.
As you know Archbishop Marampudi Joji of Hyderabad passed way on Friday 27th of August. He was also Bishop of Khammam and Vijayawada before promoted as Archbishop. His funeral rites were held at Vijayawada on 30th which I too attended. Please pray for him. R.I.P
There is a charismatic Hindi Retreat at Holy Cross School ground Mulund, Mumbai from 5th -7th November. I encourage many of you to participate in it. Please Contact Fr. Yesuraj for details.
