Cir.6/2011 1st June 2011
Dear Fathers, Brothers & Sisters,
Season’s greetings to you!
I hope some of you are enjoying holidays in different places, while some are staying put to take care of the missions in spite of the scorching heat.
The recent bye-elections brought mixed results, however it also once again proved the wisdom of Aam Admi the Common Man/ Let us hope and pray that the persons who have been elected to power keep their promises and work for the good of the people above their petty personal interests. While we deplore corruption and mal practices among the politicians and those in power, we should also examine as church personnel whether there are not taints of such practices among us and in our society and institutions. The need of soul searching in our Community about non ethical practices and corruption is surfacing in many circles. While many people take advantage of our institutions they are often times very negative about our vision and mission. It is time for each one of us to see where we stand and what remedial measures we should take in this connection.
New Major Archbishop for Syro-Malabar Church. Bishop George Alencherry of Thukalay Diocese in Tamil Nadu was elected by the Synod on 26th May and he was consecrated Major Archbishop on 29th May 2011. We offer our felicitations to him and promise our prayers. Vocation Camp from 10-12th June at Pastoral Center, Nagpur. I request the Parish Priests to encourage high school going students to attend this important Camp to promote Vocations from within and for our Archdiocese. Let us one again be thankful to the Lord of the seven Priests ordained this year 4 were from Nagpur.
We must strictly follow the National Catholic Education Policy while admitting students in our schools, esp. catholic children. Serious efforts must be taken to admit all catholic children in our schools, even if they cannot afford. Education of the poor is both the policy of the Catholic Church and that of the Nation. While there are many new laws and stringent measures in the offing both by Central and State governments, those in charges of the schools should consider their duty to be appraised of such laws act promptly accordingly. In this connection there are still complaints about taking capitation fees at the time of admission. If there is any truth in such complaints those responsible should attend to these.
